Ivy Sheward’s 3-2-1-Blog! Week 7
1st thing I learned: I learned that there are unions (like the STF) for provinces other than Saskatchewan. These are important for legal reasons.
2nd thing I learned: I learned what discourse is. In the author’s words, “Think of discourse as an ‘identity kit’ which comes complete with the appropriate costume and instructions on how to act and talk so as to take on a particular role that others will recognize”.
3rd thing I learned: i learned the difference between arbitration and mediation. Arbitration is a selected third party who comes in and listens to both sides and makes a final decision while a mediator is a third party who meets with both sides separately so solve an issue.
1st connection I made: A connection I made was in the article about professionalism outside the classroom. Before I began my pre-internship this semester, I ensured that all my social media was privatized. I’ve never been the partying type so I didn’t have to delete much.
2nd connection I made: A connection I made in the second reading, "For me, wearing shoes that would click when I walked down the hall made me feel like a teacher.” I’ve always thought this. Actually, today I wore shoes with a loud heel on them and made a comment to my friend about how wearing shoes that sounded ‘click-clacks’ made me think of teachers in the hallway and how I would soon be a teacher. It may sound childish but when I was in elementary school that's what I decided a teacher sounds like roaming through the halls.
1 question I still have: A question I still have is, if I disagreed with a guideline or rule from the STF, is there someone to discuss it with?
