1. What is the purpose of teaching Treaty Ed (specifically) or First Nations, Metis, and Inuit (FNMI) Content and Perspectives (generally) where there are few or no First Nations, Metis, Inuit peoples?
There are infinite reasons to teach treaty education to Canadians, regardless of age, race or political view. The biggest reason being that we live in Canada and it is important to know about our past so that we can improve upon it. Canada’s past hasn’t exactly been squeaky clean, so we need to work hard to right our wrongs- or at the very least, repay debts and recognize our wrong doings, becoming better. We learn about things that happened in the US (History 10) with few American students among us, so why not something even more important that happened in your country?
2. What does it mean for your understanding of curriculum that "We are all treaty people"?
It has been preached to me over and over that we are all treaty people and finally I understand what it means and truly believe it. I am a treaty person because I live in Canada, on treaty 4 land. Land taken from confused First Nations who wanted to share peacefully.
