Week 7: “Good Students"

What does it mean to be a "good" student according to the commonsense? Which students are privileged by this definition of the good student? What is made impossible to see/understand/believe because of these commonsense ideas?

According to commonsense, a good student is:

-naturally smart

-religious

-wealthy

-male

-obedient

-white

-polite (good manners)

Students privileged by this definition are white males who are wealthy, smart, religious, obedient and polite.

Things made impossible to see and/or believe with this idea is that students who don’t fall in the above list can be good students as well. These were ideals from (not that) many years ago which is very scary to think about. Today we are thankfully more inclusive with who can obtain educations.
