Week 6: Autonomous and Ideological Models
For this blog post, I chose to focus on Math at a grade 1 level, thinking about both frames. I found both autonomous and ideological frames in the curriculum but I think it focuses more on the autonomous frame. The aim of Saskatchewan's K-12 mathematics program is to help students develop the understandings and abilities necessary to be confident and competent in thinking and working mathematically in their daily activities and ongoing learnings and work experiences. The mathematics program is intended to stimulate the spirit of inquiry within the context of mathematical thinking and reasoning. I think it is a majority autonomous because they focus on skill, comprehension and individual act. These skills are used in math from grade 1 to grade 12.
The ideological frame is still present in this curriculum, it is broader conception and this quote is true for it, "literacy 'is about knowledge: the ways n which people address reading and writing are themselves rated in conceptions of knowledge, identity and being’" Street.
Both are found in the curriculum but I definitely think one is more apparent.
